Must-Visit Place in Timor-Leste: Discovering Maubara

If you're looking for a peaceful getaway outside of Dili, visiting Maubara could be the perfect choice. Maubara is just an hour away from Dili, and the road conditions are good for driving. As you travel along the coastline, you can enjoy the scenic views of the beach from your car or motorbike. I'm not certain about the public transport route, but I've heard there is a minibus that goes to Liquica, and from there, you can transfer to reach Maubara.

#Maubara: Your Idyllic Escape Just an Hour from Dili

Maubara offers a unique beach experience, with dark sand and areas adorned with black pebbles that produce a delightful sound. One of the must-visit attractions is Maubara Fort, which holds stories from the eras of the Netherlands, Portugal, and Indonesia. Nowadays, the fort has been repurposed into a restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious lunch. I highly recommend trying the Tamarind juice while enjoying the peaceful garden view. Additionally, there is a small lafatik shop nearby, where you can witness the local women crafting beautiful art pieces.

 

#Discover Pousada Maubara: Your Peaceful Escape in Timor-Leste

Located behind the fort is Pousada Maubara, an old white building with a Portuguese-style architecture. It's within walking distance, allowing you to experience the local village life as you make your way there. However, if you prefer, you can also reach it by bike or car, as walking in the afternoon sun can be quite hot. Similar to other pousadas, Maubara Pousada offers stunning views. You can appreciate the mountains behind the village, with the sea in front. During my visit, they were renovating the place for accommodation (as of 07/2023). It appears promising, and I hope to have the opportunity to stay there n
ext time.

Please note that in the afternoon, the pousada is usually closed. In such cases, you can approach the locals in the vicinity for assistance or recommendations.
